What Is a Toric Contact Lens?

The main difference between a toric lens and the standard contacts is the shape and function. Standard contact lenses have the same prescription across their entire surface area. Toric lenses, on the other hand, have a different prescription depending on the area of the contact. This change in the surface area of the lens means that there is a correct and incorrect way to place it in your eye, whereas regular contacts can be put in at any orientation.

Astigmatism and Contact Lenses

Toric contact lenses chosen for the correction of astigmatism related issues depends on the type of astigmatism. The 3 types are lenticular, regular or corneal astigmatism and classified based on the different curvature and shape of the cornea in the eye.
