dry eyes

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy is a newly approved method for treating dry eyes. If you have dry eye symptoms, you can consult your optometrist to see if IPL treatment could benefit you.

What Is IPL Therapy?

In dry eye treatment, IPL therapy is a form of light therapy that is used to treat inflammation and meibomian gland dysfunction, both of which are leading causes of dry eye.  This pulsed light device targets areas on the face and around the eyes.  The device's light energy helps reduce inflammation to improve blood flow in the small vessels around the eye. This treatment can also restore meibomian gland function for those glands that are still functional.

What Are the Benefits of IPL Therapy?

IPL therapy is a safe, effective and non-invasive treatment for dry eye symptoms.

What Are the Side Effects of IPL Therapy?

IPL therapy can cause temporary discomfort or irritation in some patients, and there are some possible short-term mild side effects of IPL therapy that you can discuss with your doctor at Chapel Hills Vision Clinic.
